The striper are biting “Alewife” now at the dam on Cherokee Lake. Alewife, what a crazy name for bait fish. Everyone around here calls them LY. Under the float lites they are show up under the shad at about 25-30 foot. We have been using the Sabiki Rig near the bottom to start catching bait. By the early morning hours we have been dropping the castnest from the side of the boat. The noise of the cast nest scares them out from under the net. Holding the net with weights in the water and then dropping is producing good bait catches. The LY are starting to show up in some of the coves and can be caught during the day light hours. Acoya caught five LY on one Sabiki Rig while catching bait on Monday. Good Job Acoya!
